SchoolPool Program Reduces Driving Trips in Redmond Neighborhoods

The October Walk-to-School Month was a great success!

Throughout October, 1900+ Redmond students from all nine Redmond schools participated in the SchoolPool program by walking, biking, carpooling or taking the school bus to school, logging trips on their SchoolPool calendars, and earning incentives. Participating students used an alternative to driving an average of 18 times each during the month of October!

Of those participating:

  •  42% rode the bus
  • 31% walked,
  • 22% carpooled
  • 5% biked

The Redmond SchoolPool program, a partnership of the City of Redmond and LWSD, encourages Redmond students and their families to leave the car behind when traveling to their neighborhood school in October and May. By walking, biking, carpooling, or riding the school bus, students are reducing neighborhood traffic congestion and local air pollution, while learning about safe ways to travel to school.

Redmond Police help student SchoolPool partnered with Redmond Police and provided one free bike helmet to each SchoolPool participant who earned the incentive by reducing driving trips.  236 students were properly fitted with a new helmet!
